Saman

Dear everyone!
Good news for all of us, Indonesian Society will be performing still in International week.
It was a sad case that some of our dancers were not allowed to perform in Cultural Performance because they do not allow under 18s in bar events
Therefore we have pushed for our child dancers to have a spot in
The ISA Pageant 2010
Thursday week 7 25 February 2010 from 8.30-finish (about 11.30) in Wentworth, Edge
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=321337157640
which is a non-alcoholic event, as well as for charity
The event raises fund for RAG, and it's free entry for everyone!!!
Therefore everyone should come because it'd be really fun!

Since we are performing in a week
we'reholding practice at Sri's House
week 6
Today! (Thursday 18) at 7-9
Friday 19 7-9
week 7
Monday 8-10
Tueseday 8-10
Wednesday 8-10

I have booked for the D-Day
W/307 from 7.30pm until end of show
you can practice and prepare for the rehearsal

in the last practice we have learnt all the moves
in the next practices we're going to learn to sing together and do the moves quickly
next week we'll be drilling the run through
hopefully we can pull off an amazing performance and gather some applause from here and there :)

See you at practice!

Updates

Hi everyone!

Thank you for those who came to the Indonesian Film Screening! I'm glad everyone is impressed! [Naturally!]

Just a little update on our activities~

We will continue our Saman practice this week on Saturday and Sunday 5pm at Sri's house
Unfortunately, we won't be performing in ISA Cultural Performance anymore because they do not allow our under 18 performers to enter the event
Nevertheless, we hope we will able to perform next term in Woodstock, as we have been invited by YUSU; and hey, it's for the good cause of charity!
So hopefully it will work out :)

As International Week is approaching~
We will be having a stall in ISA Fiesta, so watch out for the tickets because it will sell out fast~
For those who are cooking, could you please send us a list of what kitchen utensils that you need that you don't have already by Monday 15th
Shopping list will be sent out soon

That's all for now! See you~~

xoxo

The Aim of Indonesian Society is to introduce and promote Indonesian culture to Indonesian and all other students through various activities and discussions and to create a comfortable atmosphere for Indonesian students to study and socialize in the UK in general and in the University in particular.

:
There shall be a committee, made up of members, who MUST be members of the Students' Union. The Committee shall include the following, suggested but not necessarily consisting of:

Chairperson, whose duty it will be to represent the Society where necessary, and chair all meetings of the Society.

Secretary, who shall call and keep account of all meetings of the Society, and deal with all correspondence.

Treasurer, who shall keep an audited account of the finances of the Society, to present this to the Annual General Meeting and to liaise with the YUSU Services and Finance Officer on matters of finance.

:
Officers are responsible to the members of the Society. An officer is subject to a vote of NO CONFIDENCE by a meeting of the Society. This must be passed by a simple majority of those present and voting. Abstentions shall count towards quoracy but shall not count for or against. No committee officer shall serve for more than 12 months without re-election.
:
An Annual General Meeting of the Society will take place at least once in every 12 month period. This meeting shall called by the Chair and be advertised to all members of the society and the YUSU Societies and Communications Officer with at least seven working days notice. Elections will take place at this time. Non-members and non students’ union members shall not be permitted to vote or stand for election. Election rules require candidates to leave the room and a choice of either STV or simple majority voting. All members should be made aware of their ability to stand for election and vote.

The YUSU Societies and Communications Officer can call a General Meeting of any Society, at which elections can be held, with significant cause to do so.

All meetings must be advertised to all members. The quorum for all meetings shall be 10% of the membership of the society. If quoracy cannot be met at a Society General Meeting, called in accordance with its constitution, the YUSU Executive Committee can ratify the decisions taken.

:

These officers must be bona fide students of this University. Two of these signatories shall be required for each expense claim and for any contract or undertaking, financial or otherwise, on behalf of the Society. The Accounts Books shall be available for inspection at any reasonable time by any member of the Society, or by the Union’s Finance Committee. All monies should be banked with the SU Finance Office, and a receipt obtained. The Society shall provide the SU Finance Office with a valid Society Signatories List when a new signatory is elected.

:
Every member of the Society agrees to abide by the Union Code, and the Society remains responsible for the actions of its members in the course of their Society duties.

:
Every officer of the Society shall be entitled to be indemnified out of the assets of the Society against all losses or liability which he or she may sustain or incur in or about the execution of his or her office or otherwise in relation thereto and no officer of the Society shall be liable for any loss, damage or misfortune which may happen to or be incurred by the Society in the execution of the duties of his or her office in relation thereto. Providing that nothing in this clause shall affect their liability for the consequences of any negligent act on their part.

:
This Constitution may be amended by a two thirds vote at a Society General Meeting. If amended the constitution shall be re-ratified by the YUSU Executive Committee before coming into effect. Any proposed amendment must be notified to the members seven days before a meeting. The Society shall function according to the Constitution of the University of York Students’ Union.

Our next event is Indonesian Film Screening
showing: Laskar Pelangi (The Rainbow Troops) with English Subtitle
Time and Venue will be confirmed later on.
This will be in conjunction with ISA Asian Movie Night.

Watch the trailer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0q1mbpbjSE

In short it's a story of a group of young kids from a poor village who struggled for education against the pressure of becoming coolies
It's not only about poverty but also about justice. This is one of the most popular film in Indonesia and indeed very touching; one you cannot easily forget.

Bring your friends along for a nice movie~
There will be snacks and drinks ;))
